Top Seasonal Thai Fruits Ready For Export

With an aim to be the ‘kitchen of the world’, Thailand has been putting increasing efforts to offer top quality foods, beverages, fruits and vegetables. Fruits have been a major focus for export lately. So what are some of the most popular, exotic and not to mention, delicious fruits available?

Here a just a few:

Coconut
This hard-shelled fruit contains a cool light refreshing juice and at the walls, a supple tender white edible flesh. Available year-round, fresh coconuts are extremely popular and often used as Welcome Drinks at restaurants, hotels and spas. This fruit is also used in desserts, cocktails and even light meals.

Durian
Known as ‘King of Thai fruits’, durian has a very unique aroma and an acquired taste. It is available in the Eastern and Southern provinces throughout the year with peak seasons between May to August. Durian comes in various types: golden pillow, long-stem and gibbon. The quality is usually selected by the thickness of flesh and the size of seed.

Longan
Grown in the Northern provinces of Chiang Mai and Lamphun, Longan is normally exported fresh, canned and dried. The fruit is best during between June to August and contains high calcium and phosphorus.

Mangosteen
Considered as ‘Queen of Tropical Fruits’, mangosteen has white flesh and reddish purple outer shell. It is available between November and March. High in calcium, phosphorus, vitamin B and C, it has a sweet taste and scent.

Rambutan
Most probably the most beautiful, unique exotic-looking fresh fruit in the world, rambutan is thick with a hairy outer skin. It has mainly two varieties where one has a sweet, juicy flesh that sticks to the seed, while the other has a crisp, white flesh that comes off the seed easily. High in nutrition, the fruit is seasonal between May – September.
